vs Town Green U13s 7-1
This was a great team performance, where no one player
stood out as the boys started the New Year with a bang, running out easy
winners.
On a heavy pitch, the match took time to settle but
probing balls behind the defence finally found their reward in the 9th minute
as Caleb Willis’ ball gave Jacob Johnston acres of space. Joe Holbrook saw his
shot saved and, after Louis Thompson’s bicycle kick hit the bar, Adam Wilding
finally slotted home across the face of the keeper.
Holbrook threaded
a ball through the Town Green defence for Johnston to double the lead after 18
minutes and, with Elliot Halpin, Sam Griffith and Tom Farley providing a solid
defensive platform, they extended the lead with the last kick of the half,
Ollie Garbe following up after the keeper made a great save from his first
shot.
Holbrook’s free kick rattled the cross-bar soon after the
break but he got his reward in the 41st minute with a cool finish
from Josh Winrow’s ball into the right channel. Town Green were tiring in the
conditions and Crosby took full advantage. Winrow hit the crossbar after a
Cruyff turn from Garbe in the box and they scored a fifth after 59 minutes as
Willis touched home Cormac Brady’s drilled cross.
Garbe freed Johnston down the left and his square ball
took out the whole defence for Willis to score into an empty net two minutes
later. Winrow forced a save from a narrow angle and, from the resulting corner,
Johnston was denied by the defender’s handball on the line. The spot kick left
the keeper with no chance as Johnston got his second and the team’s seventh.
Ciarán Brady had been alert in goal but was finally
beaten five minutes from the end, with the forward looking yards offside to
escape the defence and shoot home.
